Obesity costs women much more
If there’s anything that a woman is conscious of, it is her weight, and there’s no doubt that they will try anything to keep it under control. And a new study reveals why: it costs them much more.
In taking into account the economic expense of obesity on the individual, factors such as direct costs such as medical expenses as well as indirect costs such as lost wages and reduced work productivity have all been considered in the overall analysis.
And in comparing the costs between obese men and women, it was found that while men spend about $ 2646 in expenses, women spend twice as much, with an average expenditure of $ 4879. Another observation clearly indicated that women who were obese earned much lesser than women for whom excess weight was an issue.
This conclusion was due to the findings of a report which took data from a median annual wage of $ 32, 450 for women, and found that obese women who work full time earn $ 1855 less than women who did not have a weight problem. Interestingly, when this study also compiled data for the income of obese versus non-obese women, it was found that there wasn’t much of a difference in how much they earned annually.
According to experts, this difference in earnings between women who were obese and nonobese was due to the fact that a woman who is obese is discriminated against as opposed to men, as obesity in women is perceived differently as opposed to obesity in men.
