Understanding Prescription Drug Abuse

When one uses the word addiction, it does not necessarily only mean an obsession for drugs and alcohol but can range from material to physical possessions. However, the most common use of ‘addiction’ is in the area of substance abuse such as drug addiction etc.

And while the world wages war on drugs, it is important that one also notes that drug abuse is not only limited to the illegal kind that comes across the border, but prescription drugs that come over the counter. Not only do drug rehab centers recognize this as a growing problem (such as Cirque Lodge) but are also creating ways by which one can treated for this type of addiction.

The only difference is that the reasons why people overdose on prescription drugs are very different even though the bottom line is that it is still an addiction. Normally, when one goes through extreme pain or is unable to sleep and has to deal with sicknesses that are similar to the kinds mentioned earlier, this is where prescription drug abuse becomes apparent.

Patients begin to fake injuries or even pain in order to be able to get more medication than the doctor recommends, and this is where their dependence on one type of medication reaches obsessive levels, much like the alcoholic or drug addict who needs a fix ever so often or else they begin to display abnormal behavior.

Cirque Lodge, located in Sundance Utah, with the combination of experiential therapy and an individualized treatment plan knows how to treat these patients adequately.
